Heute hat das Fliegen richtig viel Spaß gemacht. Kein Kampf, keine Fehlentscheidungen und jeder Bart dort, wo man ihn erwartete.

Am Abend waren es dann nach 5 Stunden 40 Minuten rund 740km.

Wie gewohnt sind wir spät (13.00 Lok) gestartet. Da hatte sich die Thermik schon gut ausgebildet und weit im Osten waren die ersten Wolken zu sehen. Der erste Bart nach dem Motor einfahren ging gleich sehr gut auf über 3.000m. Also ab in den Osten. Der nächste Bart bei Blumfelde war sehr gut und brachte uns auf 4.700m. Alles immer noch im Blauen. Und kurz vor uns die Wolken. Die Freude im Flugzeug war groß.

Also jetzt einen Gleitflug da vorne an die Wolken. Aber da vertut man sich hier in Namibia bei der sehr guten Sicht schnell. Die erste Wolke war 68km entfernt und der lange Gleitflug hat 2.200m unserer schönen Höhe gekostet. Und es wurde wieder warm! Aber dann ging es los. Schon die erste Wolke brachte 1.500m Höhengewinn bei einem mittleren Steigen von 3,1m/s.

Und so ging es weiter. Bei bester Optik gab es super Bärte, wobei der Integrator auch zeitweise über 8m/s stand.

Bei solch einer Optik sind die Aufwinde auch erklärlich.

Es war für den Nachmittag vorhergesagt, dass vom Westen ein Starkwindfeld herein kommen sollte, also der Heimflug aus dem Osten durch starken Gegenwind erschwert ist. Auf dem Weg nach Hause wurden auch die Wolken weniger. Aber jede der einzelnen Wolken zog so mit 3-4m/s.

Da jeder dieser Schleier zog, war der Heimflug kein Problem und wir verlängerten den Schenkel noch bis hinter Kalkrand. Wir sind dann noch den vierten Schenkel nach Norden, bis kurz vor den Windhoek Luftraum geflogen und haben dann zum Endanflug auf Bitterwasser angesetzt. Auf diesem Weg, im Blauen, sind wir dann in eine Aufgleiterscheinung eingeflogen. Die kalte Luft aus Westen schob sich unter die Warmluft aus Osten. In dieser aufsteigenden Luftmasse konnten wir dann die ganze Zeit bis südlich Bitterwasser fliegen ohne Höhe zu verlieren. 

Dann hatten wir aber genug geflogen. Da wir wegen des starken Windes auf jeden Fall nach Westen landen mussten, dort aber die untergehende Sonne einen fürchterlich blendet, sind wir einige Zeit vor Sonnenuntergang gelandet.

Ein fantastischer Flug mit wunderschönen Eindrücken liegt hinter uns. Und das Landebier hat besonders gut geschmeckt.

Today flying was really fun. No fight, no wrong decisions and every thermal where you expected it.

As usual we started late (13.00 loc). By then the thermals had already formed well and far to the east the first clouds could be seen. The first thermal after the engine retracted went immediately very well at over 3.000m. So go to the east. The next thermal near Blumfelde was very good and brought us up to 4.700m. Everything still in the blue. And shortly before us the clouds. The joy in the plane was great.

So now a long gliding flight there in front to the clouds. But here in Namibia with the very good visibility one gets lost very fast. The first cloud was 68km away and the long glide cost 2.200m of our beautiful height. And it became warm again! But then it started. Already the first cloud brought 1.500m height gain with an average climb of 3,1m/s.

And so it went on. With the best optics there were super thermals, whereby the integrator was also over 8m/s at times.

With such an optics the thermals are also explainable.

It was predicted for the afternoon that a strong wind field would come in from the west, making the flight home from the east more difficult due to strong headwinds. On the way home the clouds also became less. But each of the clouds worked with 3-4m/s.

Since each of these little clouds worked, the flight home was no problem and we extended the thigh until behind Kalkrand. We then flew the fourth leg to the north, until just before Windhoek airspace and then made our final glide to Bitterwasser. On this way, in the blue, we flew into a glide phenomenon. The cold air from the west moved under the warm air from the east. In this ascending air mass we could then fly all the way south to Bitterwasser without losing height. 

But then we had flown enough. Since we had to land in the west direction because of the strong wind, but the setting sun dazzled us, we landed some time before sunset.

A fantastic flight with wonderful impressions lies behind us. And the landing beer tasted especially good.
