Leider ist in dieser Woche das Wetter nicht so optimal zum Fliegen. Es ist zwar 30 Grad und Sonne, aber das ist für richtig gutes Hammerwetter zu kalt. Es kann zwar geflogen werden, aber Namibia-Wetter ist das nicht. In der Zeit in der wir auf Tour waren, war das Wetter erstklassig und es sind in Bitterwasser viele 1.000 km Flüge gemacht worden.
Am 07.12.2023 sind wir trotz des nicht optimalen Wetters geflogen. 3 ½ Stunden und es war ein guter, schöner Flug. Na Ja, das Wetter soll ja demnächst besser werden.
Am 08.12.2023 ist Wolf Dietrich geflogen. Wir teilen uns ja dieses Jahr sein Flugzeug. Während des Fluges stellte er fest, dass beim Motorlauf der Generator nicht arbeitet.
Wegen des Defektes an dem ARCUS wurde am Freitagabend in Kirchheim im Herstellerwerk noch schnell eine zentrale Steuereinheit einem Gast übergeben, der am Samstag nach Kiripotib fliegt. Kiripotib ist ein anderes Segelflugzentrum hier in Namibia.
Am Sonntagmittag (10.12.2023) war das Ersatzteil in Kiripotib. Eine kurze Überlegung ob es möglich wäre mit einem UL Flugzeug zu fliegen wurde verworfen, da sehr starker Wind wehte, was UL Flugzeuge überhaupt nicht mögen. Also rein ins Auto und fahren. Die Fahrt dauert für eine Strecke ca. eine Stunde.
Zurück in Bitterwasser wurde das Ersatzteil sofort eingebaut. Leider ohne Erfolg. Das Ersatzteil war für einen ARCUS der Version 2 und nicht für einen ARCUS der Version 1.
Heftiges Telefonieren folgte und es stellte sich heraus, dass in Kiripotib eine Steuereinheit für die Version 1 als Ersatzteil liegt. Na toll.
Am 11.12.2023 früh morgens flog Wolf-Dietrich dann mit dem UL (das Wetter war ok) nach Kiripotib und zum Frühstück war also die neue Einheit da. Natürlich wurde sie sofort eingesteckt. Jedoch wieder kein Erfolg. Im Gegenteil. Kleine Rauchzeichen und eine auslösende Sicherung waren keine guten Zeichen.
Jetzt bleibt nur noch eine Lösung. Max, ein Experte vom Herstellerwerk, der zur Zeit in Kiripotib ist, muss hierhin kommen und die Sache in die Hand nehmen.
Nichts desto Trotz genießen wir unseren Aufenthalt hier. Wir vertreiben uns die Zeit mit Willi, unserem zahmen, auf der Lodge aufgewachsenen, Springbock, liegen am Pool oder genießen den Sonnenuntergang am Dunehouse.

Unfortunately, the weather this week is not ideal for flying. It's 30 degrees and sunny, but it's too cold for really good weather. You can fly, but it's not Namibia weather. During the time we were on tour, the weather was first class and many 1,000 km flights were made in Bitterwasser.
On 07.12.2023 we flew despite the less than ideal weather. 3 ½ hours and it was a good, beautiful flight. Well, the weather should get better soon.
Wolf Dietrich flew on 08.12.2023. We are sharing his aircraft this year. During the flight, he noticed that the generator was not working when the engine was running.
Due to the defect in the ARCUS, a central control unit was quickly handed over to a guest at the manufacturer's factory in Kirchheim on Friday evening, who was flying to Kiripotib on Saturday. Kiripotib is another gliding centre here in Namibia.
The spare part was in Kiripotib at midday on Sunday (10 December 2023). A brief consideration of whether it would be possible to fly with an UL aircraft was rejected, as there was a very strong wind, which UL aircraft don't like at all. So we got in the car and set off. The journey takes about an hour.
Back in Bitterwasser, the spare part was fitted immediately. Unfortunately without success. The spare part was for an ARCUS version 2 and not for an ARCUS version 1.
A lot of phoning followed and it turned out that there was a control unit for version 1 as a spare part in Kiripotib. That's great.
On 11 December 2023 early in the morning, Wolf-Dietrich flew to Kiripotib with the UL (the weather was ok) and the new unit was there before breakfast. Of course, it was plugged in immediately. But again no success. On the contrary. Small smoke signals and a tripping fuse were not good signs.
Now there was only one solution left. Max, an expert from the manufacturer's factory, who is currently in Kiripotib, has to come here and take matters into his own hands.
Nevertheless, we enjoy our stay here. We pass the time with Willi, our tame springbok that grew up at the lodge, lie by the pool or enjoy the sunset at the Dunehouse.
