Wir, Christa und ich (Wolfgang), haben es geschafft. Wir sind in Bitterwasser/Namibia angekommen.

Wie befürchtet kam das Working Permit am letzten Tag vor der Abreise. Aber immerhin, es kam. Und über so Kleinigkeiten, dass die Passnummer in Christas Permit unvollständig war muss man sich keinen Kopf machen. Also ging es am Dienstag los.

Um 18:00 Uhr kam das Taxi. und schon ging es los. Unfall am Bad Homburger Kreuz. Also Umweg über Königstein und Eschborn. Trotzdem waren wir früh genug am Flughafen. Der Flughafen war erschreckend leer.

Das Flugzeug war gut gefüllt. Vor dem Einsteigen musste zum ersten Mal der PCR Test gezeigt werden. Nach dem Boarding teilte uns der Kapitän mit, dass es ca. 15 Minuten Verspätung gibt, da noch Fracht geladen werden muss. Das muss man versuchen zu verstehen. Nichts los und die schaffen es nicht on time die Fracht fertig zu haben. 

Dann endlich Push Back, Triebwerke an und Taxiing. Doch plötzlich blieben wir stehen, drehten um um rollten zurück zum Gate. Der Kapitän sagt: "Ein technisches Problem."

Als wir wieder standen hieß es: "Losschnallen, es muss getankt werden. Es ist zu wenig Sprit im Flugzeug." Das Gelächter war groß. Letztendlich schien es aber doch ein Problem mit der Anzeige zu sein.

Es wurde später und später. Frankfurt hat Nachtflugverbot. Ab 23:00 Uhr ist Schluss mit starten. Wir stellten uns schon vor, wie es sein würde wenn die Reparatur nicht klappt. Vor allen Dingen wäre dann der PCR Test abgelaufen. Letztendlich schaffte Lufthansa Technik es aber doch noch und 9 Minuten vor Betriebsschluss hoben wir ab.

Der Flug verlief ruhig und ohne weitere Vorkommnisse. 

Eurowings schreibt in Ihrer Werbung, dass die Business Class ein Zweimeter Flachbett hat. Das ist schlicht gelogen. Sicherlich ist die Gesamtlänge 2 Meter, aber der Fußraum ist so eng, dass nur Menschen mit einem Bein diesen benutzen können.

Da sind wir von Air Namibia aber Besseres gewöhnt.

In Windhoek stand uns dann die Immigration bevor. Namibia ist ein wunderschönes Land, liebe und tolle Menschen, endlose Weite, fast immer Sonnenschein aber leider auch die Frauen am Immigrations Schalter. Sie sind meistens sehr unfreundlich und zickig. Das einzig Negative an Namibia.

Doch dieses Jahr war es deutlich besser. Man könnte fast sagen, Sie waren freundlich. Alle drei Stationen an denen der PCR Test und andere Formulare gezeigt bzw. abgegeben werden mussten, waren innerhalb von 45 Minuten passiert.

Beim Verlassen der Gepäckhalle muss das Gepäck noch einmal durch die Röntgenanlage. Offensichtlich hatte Christa es mit den vielen Sweets in den Koffern übertrieben und wir mussten in den Nebenraum zur Gepäckkontrolle. Ende der Geschichte: Jetzt haben wir eine Großpackung Hanuta weniger zu verschenken.

Übernahme des Autos bei der Autovermietung Hester verlief wie immer problemlos. Wir mieten dort seit 2002.

Unser Auto bis Ende Februar 2021

Auf dem Weg nach Bitterwasser entwickelte sich das Wetter gut. Offensichtlich gab es sehr gute Blauthermik. Jedenfalls war der Dustdevil, der auf unserer Straße stand, sehr beeindruckend.

In Bitterwasser angekommen war die Begrüßung super herzlich. Alle freuen sich, dass endlich wieder Gäste kommen. Aber die größte Überraschung waren zwei kleine Eulen und ein zahmer, junger Springbock. Doch davon mehr morgen im nächsten Post.

We, Christa and I (Wolfgang), have made it. We arrived in Bitterwasser/Namibia.

As feared the working permit arrived on the last day before departure. But still, it came. And you don't have to worry about such small things that the passport number in Christa's permit was incomplete. So we started on Tuesday.

At 18:00 o'clock the taxi arrived and the trip started. Accident at the Bad Homburg cross. So a detour via Königstein and Eschborn. Nevertheless we were early enough at the airport. The airport was frighteningly empty.

The plane was well filled. Before boarding, the PCR test had to be shown for the first time. After boarding, the captain informed us that there would be a delay of about 15 minutes because there was still some cargo to be loaded. One must try to understand this. Nothing is going on and they do not manage to have the cargo ready on time. 

Then finally push back, engines on and taxiing. But suddenly we stopped, turned around and taxied back to the gate. The captain says: "A technical problem.

When we were standing again, the captain said: "Unstrap, we have to refuel. There's not enough fuel in the plane." The laughter was big. But in the end it seemed to be a problem with the display.

It got later and later. Frankfurt has a ban on night flights. From 23:00 o'clock on it is over with take off. We already imagined how it would be if the repair didn't work. First of all, the PCR test would have expired. In the end Lufthansa Technik managed to do it and 9 minutes before the end of operations of the airport we take off.

The flight went smoothly and without any further incidents. 

Eurowings writes in their advertisement that the Business Class has a two-meter flatbed. That is simply a lie. Certainly the total length is 2 meters, but the foot space is so narrow that only people with one leg can use it.

But we at Air Namibia are used to better things.

In Windhoek we had to go to immigration. Namibia is a beautiful country, lovely and great people, endless space, almost always sunshine but unfortunately also the women at the immigration desk. They are mostly very unfriendly and bitchy. The only negative thing in Namibia.

But this year it was much better. One could almost say you were friendly. All three stations where the PCR test and other forms had to be shown or handed in were done within 45 minutes.

When leaving the baggage hall, the baggage had to go through the X-ray machine again. Obviously Christa had overdone it with the many sweets in the suitcases and we had to go to the next room for luggage inspection. End of the story: Now we have one large pack of Hanuta less to give away.

Taking over the car at the car rental Hester went without any problems as usual. We rent there since 2002.

On the way to Bitterwasser the weather developed well. Obviously there was very good blue thermals. Anyway, the Dustdevil that was on our road was very impressive.

Arrived in Bitterwasser the welcome was super warm. Everybody is happy that finally guests are coming again. But the biggest surprise were two little owls and a tame young springbok. But more about that tomorrow in the next post.
