Ein kleiner Zoo - A small zoo

For English version please scroll down.

Unsere 3 Wochen alten Uhu's

Baki will auch streicheln

Uns sieben geht es gut

Lange Beine?

It was a big surprise when we arrived in Bitterwasser. There are three animal stories.

The owls, more precisely spotted eagle owl . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spotted_eagle-owl

This story will especially please Stefan Sänger. A few years ago he raised a small eagle owl here in Bitterwasser. We named him Biwa. It was a great joy. But at some point during the offseason Biwa didn't appear again. There is an interesting report in german language about this under: http://www.greifvogelhilfe.de/uhuaufzucht-per-email/

Three weeks ago our cook Loui found two little chicks that had fallen out of the nest and had been abandoned by their parents. Since Loui was already in Bitterwasser when Biwa was reared in 2015, he knew his way around and took care of the two. They did not have their eyes open yet and now recognize Loui as a father. At the moment there is no name for the two yet. Suggestions are welcome.

The young springbok

Rodrick, our caretaker at the lodge, has found a small abandoned springbok near the fence. He raised it with the bottle and now Rodrick is the father. The little springbok already has a name: Baki

Baki keeps the meadow short.

Baki is not shy at all

Baki

The ostrich baby's

4 weeks ago our managers Rodrick and Luzaan found an abandoned nest with seven young ostriches. They took care of the ostriches and raised them.

Off for an evening walk

Sander and Amira are happy

Baki also wants to stroke

The seven of us are doing well

Long legs?
It must be the mother.

Endlich da!

For English version please scroll down.

Dann endlich Push Back, Triebwerke an und Taxiing.

Man könnte fast sagen, Sie waren freundlich.

English Version ========================

We, Christa and I (Wolfgang), have made it. We arrived in Bitterwasser/Namibia.

As feared the working permit arrived on the last day before departure. But still, it came. And you don't have to worry about such small things that the passport number in Christa's permit was incomplete. So we started on Tuesday.

At 18:00 o'clock the taxi arrived and the trip started. Accident at the Bad Homburg cross. So a detour via Königstein and Eschborn. Nevertheless we were early enough at the airport. The airport was frighteningly empty.
All counters empty

At the security all alone

Goethe alone but with mask

The plane was well filled. Before boarding, the PCR test had to be shown for the first time. After boarding, the captain informed us that there would be a delay of about 15 minutes because there was still some cargo to be loaded. One must try to understand this. Nothing is going on and they do not manage to have the cargo ready on time.

Then finally push back, engines on and taxiing. But suddenly we stopped, turned around and taxied back to the gate. The captain says: "A technical problem.

When we were standing again, the captain said: "Unstrap, we have to refuel. There's not enough fuel in the plane." The laughter was big. But in the end it seemed to be a problem with the display.

It got later and later. Frankfurt has a ban on night flights. From 23:00 o'clock on it is over with take off. We already imagined how it would be if the repair didn't work. First of all, the PCR test would have expired. In the end Lufthansa Technik managed to do it and 9 minutes before the end of operations of the airport we take off.

The flight went smoothly and without any further incidents.

Eurowings writes in their advertisement that the Business Class has a two-meter flatbed. That is simply a lie. Certainly the total length is 2 meters, but the foot space is so narrow that only people with one leg can use it.
Business Class at Eurowings.
But we at Air Namibia are used to better things.

In Windhoek we had to go to immigration. Namibia is a beautiful country, lovely and great people, endless space, almost always sunshine but unfortunately also the women at the immigration desk. They are mostly very unfriendly and bitchy. The only negative thing in Namibia.

But this year it was much better. One could almost say you were friendly. All three stations where the PCR test and other forms had to be shown or handed in were done within 45 minutes.

When leaving the baggage hall, the baggage had to go through the X-ray machine again. Obviously Christa had overdone it with the many sweets in the suitcases and we had to go to the next room for luggage inspection. End of the story: Now we have one large pack of Hanuta less to give away.

Taking over the car at the car rental Hester went without any problems as usual. We rent there since 2002.
Our car until end of February 2021

On the way to Bitterwasser the weather developed well. Obviously there was very good blue thermals. Anyway, the Dustdevil that was on our road was very impressive.

Arrived in Bitterwasser the welcome was super warm. Everybody is happy that finally guests are coming again. But the biggest surprise were two little owls and a tame young springbok. But more about that tomorrow in the next post.

Sonntag, 8. November 2020

Super. Mal was Negatives! - Super. Something negative!

Hoffentlich!

==========================

Just got the test result from the PCR test. Christa and I are negative. So there is almost nothing standing in the way of our entry into Namibia.

This morning (Sunday the 08.11.2020) we were at the airport in Frankfurt and underwent the PCR test. It is quite unpleasant (makes me puke) when the girls fiddle with the sampler deep in their throat. But after a short time everything was over.

The whole thing went so fast that we only had to pay for 20 minutes in the parking garage, so only one Euro. Otherwise the started hour would have cost six euros. We were there at 11:00 a.m. and in the evening, shortly before 6:00 p.m., we had the result.

The only thing we are missing now is the working permit from Namibia. Since we are staying very long and I am not only a tourist because of my negotiations with the NCAA, the Namibian Cicil Aviation Authority, we think it would be better to have a working permit for Namibia. Unfortunately it is like always in Namibia. Allegedly the permit is approved, but we do not have it in our hands. According to experience it comes one day before departure. Hopefully!

Verladung in Ötisheim - Loading in Ötisheim

===================

Yesterday, 15.10.2020, a small group got serious. Maybe we can fly in Bitterwasser/Namibia this season after all. Elmar, our wheelchair ARCUS pilot has his ARCUS, we have our ARCUS and the Bitterwasser Society has their ARCUS. So there were three ARCUS in the container.

There would have been room for a fourth plane, but firstly, nobody wanted to bring his plane down and secondly, an EB28, which is currently in Bitterwasser, should be brought back to Germany after the season. For this, there must be room in the only container that is going to Bitterwasser this year.

In the morning at 09:00 o'clock working started, 13:00 o'clock came the customs, 15:00 o'clock the crane and at 16:00 o'clock the truck.

In the middle of November we expect the container in Bitterwasser. But can we be there ourselves then? Let's wait and see. Keep your fingers crossed for us. Today we got the good news that Namibia is no longer on the RKI list of risk countries. So nothing stands in the way of our return journey. Provided we get there and nothing changes until February. But who knows in Corona times.

Anyway, the weather is already good now, in October very good.

Und es gibt doch eine Bitterwasser Saison -And yet there is a Bitterwasser season

------------

This year will go down in history as the first Corona year.

There were so many ups and downs. First they said no Bitterwasser season, then they did, then they didn't and then they did again.

Now it is clear. There will be a small season. One container full has come together. It will be a small group at Bitterwasser. But that is good under Corona conditions. Social Distancing is no problem under these conditions in Namibia.

Today we have booked the flight with Lufthansa (Eurowings) for the 10.11.2020 We still have an Air Namibia flight, but due to the uncertain situation with Air Namibia, who do not want to fly internationally before the end of November 2020, we will postpone this flight to 2021.

On 15.10.2020 the container will be packed. Now everything must go fast. The ARCUS is to be taken to Schempp-Hirth for the annual maintenance. But the friends at SHK are doing everything possible.

We are really looking forward to our second home with all the fantastic flights over the Kalahari and the unforgettable sunsets.
